Three senatorial aspirants seeking to represent Kogi Central under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) have shelved their ambitions citing different reasons.
One of the aspirants, Engr. Lawal Omeiza Mohammed said the decision to shelve his ambition stemmed from the current political atmosphere that does not align with his earlier expectations.
In a statement, Lawal said: “The decision to opt-out of the race was instigated by our well meaning brothers and sisters from the district who advised that I shelve the decision to contest the senatorial seat for now owing to unclear atmosphere. The current political environment does not align with our earlier expectations and the need to be in agreement with tbe interest of the party. As a statesman and lover of my people, I feel the interest of the party and safety of my supporters should be given the utmost priority.”
Barely 24hours after Lawal cited insecurity as his reason for backing out of the senate race, another aspirant, Khalifa Abdulrahman Okene announced his decision to withdraw from the contest. Khalifa, however, said his decision is in the interest of the masses.
According to a press release by his media team, Okene said the decision was made for the interest of the masses and the co-existence of the relationship that exist between him and the leadership of the party.
Few hours after, Chief Momoh Obaro followed suit. He accused the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello of manipulating the process.
He told his supporters that the fight for the liberation of Kogi Central Senatorial District has just begun.
While appealing to his supporters, he said though he is not living APC, vowing to lead a vigorous campaign for the re-election of the President Mohammadu Buhari in the district hoping that it will give him the required opportunity to bring succor and relief to the people reeling from absolute poverty and hunger.
