Governor Yahaya Bello has applauded the Members of the 6th Kogi State House of Assembly, describing their legislative output as "nothing short of prodigious."
Gov Bello gave the salutation in a brief remark on Friday at the 3rd Anniversary commemoration of the State Assembly.
He acknowledged how the lawmakers have managed discord with maturity, and overcome the constraints of inadequate funding while attending to legislative functions.
According to him, the three arms of government in the state have enjoyed harmony owing to their mutual respect for one another and adherence to the Rule of Law.
"For two years in a row now, they have passed our Money Bills in record time. This made Kogi State one of the few whose Annual Budgets for 2016 and 2017 became available for reference purposes on and offline, before the end of January in the respective years.
Another significant example of this Assembly’s commitment to do the work for which they were elected is the domestication of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL), 2017. This Assembly laboured on that signature legislation through the Christmas season last year which enabled me to sign it into Law on the 28th day of December, 2017. Their efforts mean that Kogi is one of the very few States of the federation and fewer still in the North to domesticate this innovative piece of Criminal Justice Legislation," he said.
In a related development, the Governor presented six new bills before the House, enjoining the lawmakers on quick passage. He also appealed to them to speed up the Executive Bills pending before the House.
"We are fully aware of the urgent need to update Members’ constituency and other allowances and I assure you that we are even now working on that. It is safe to say that soon, very soon indeed, we should be able to regularise your financial positions," he added.
